2017 $1000 Scholarship Winners

Tobi

Haleigh Smith
Madison Academic High School

Haleigh Smith, a student at Madison Academic High School, is the daughter of Penny Lane and Keith Smith, and is the recipient of a $1000 scholarship. Haleigh plans to attend Bethel University and major in criminal justice. After graduation, she would like to join the Army or the FBI. Haleigh is an active 4-H member and has served on the Sioux Indian Reservation in North Dakota helping the community with gardening and building houses, as well as working on local 4-H projects. She has also volunteered at the Smoky Mountain Children's Home in Pigeon Forge, and she volunteers weekly at the Three-Way Animal Rescue. Haleigh is a member of the band and the soccer team.



Rachel

Zachary West
University School of Jackson

Zachary West, a student at University School of Jackson, is also a recipient of a $1000 award. He is the son of Cynthia and Henry West. He plans to attend Morehouse College and major in political science with a goal of becoming an attorney and ultimately entering politics to effectuate positive change in the world. Zachary has a leadership role in USJ's SBA, received an outstanding achievement award in band, and was voted most spirited in his senior class. He has also received numerous community leadership awards and has participated in many service projects with organizations such as RIFA, Top Teens of America, Inc., Keep America Beautiful, March of Dimes, and Jack and Jill of America, Inc. Zachary was The Links, Inc., 40th Beautillion's 2016 Mr. Entrepreneur
and Mr. Beau.

 

 

Sam Bomar Memorial Scholarship in memory of Judy Pennel - $1000

Andrew

Logan Taylor, a student at Sacred Heart of Jesus High School, has received a $1000 award in memory of Judy Pennel. Logan was selected to receive this award by Judy's daughter, Carrie Prewitt, one of Logan's teachers. Logan is the son of Michael and Debra Taylor and plans to attend Middle Tennessee State University.
